Additional Conditions for Mares Bred with Transported Cooled Semen

1.      Fill out and return the Shipped Semen Breeding Contract plus booking fee. The booking fee reserves your breeding, but the balance of the breeding fee, the shipping fee, and the container deposit must be paid in full before semen will be shipped.

2.      It is the Mare Owner’s responsibility to let the stallion manager know what month you would like to breed if your mare is open. It is recommended that she go through her transitional heat cycle before trying to breed her. Or, if she is currently in foal, when she is due and whether or not you will be breeding back on her foal heat.

3.       Provide the stallion manager with your veterinarian’s phone number and the address where the semen will be shipped. Make sure your vet is currently doing shipped semen reproductive work.

4.      Contact the stallion manager when your mare foals or, if open, when she first shows signs of coming into heat.

5.      Your vet decides when to order semen. Requests for semen must be received 48 hours prior to shipping, and only for a regularly scheduled breeding day,  Monday-Wednesday-Friday. Orders not received 48 hours in advance will be subject to an additional $25 service charge if accepted and filled. Saturday and Sunday shipments are available only by special arrangement and are subject to scheduling availability. Additional shipping fees may be assessed for weekend deliveries. All requests for semen shipments shall be filled as received, subject to availability.

6.      The lab fee shall be $200.00 per shipment. The lab fee includes semen collection, packaging, and a Bio-Flyte disposable container. If a Hamilton-throme equitainer is used, a $275.00 deposit is required. If shipment by counter to counter air transportation is required, there will be an additional $100 charge.

7.      Equitainer MUST be returned immediately after removing cooled semen by the quickest courier service available (Fed-Ex or UPS) at the mare owner’s expense.

8.      The container deposit will be refunded when the container is returned and the mare is bred for the last time. THE EQUITAINER MUST BE RETURNED AFTER EACH USE. If it is not returned within 3 days of receipt, a charge of $25 per day will be assessed.

9.      Drake Johnson reserves the right to approve ALL locations where semen will be shipped, and will ONLY ship to those locations with which he is comfortable that the cooled semen will be handled properly.

10.  There is a possibility on some collection days that due to the number of mares being bred to a given stallion at the ranch, we may not be able to ship cooled semen.
